Q:What kind of writing style and language does the writer use?
Neil Gaiman uses a range of descriptive language and has chosen to use an unusual choice of words. He narrates the in third person, being specific and providing interesting details. This could include a variation foods which he mentions, such as, “Mole tasted like carrion slug. Fruit bat tasted remarkably like sweet guinea pig. (Pg 78)” Eating such animals is commonly rare and might seem weird but the author has made this the norm of their ‘epicurean” society. Other animals that seem to be eaten by an exclusive dining club also are dolphinfish, ostrich and ‘unicorn flank tartare’. Further more, the story discusses everyday thoughts such as how we view society. In ‘Sunbird’, the world has become, “…cosmonauts exploring undreamed worlds of delectation and gourmanderie (Pg 79).” Using this example, it evidently shows that Gaiman has chosen uncommon words that may reflect the high class statuses and almost grande lifestyles of the characters mentioned in the story.
