LANGUAGE GENDER
How do you think your gender influences the language you use? What do you think has influenced the way you view your role in the communication process? How “should” boys behave? How “should” girls behave? Are you more or less forceful with your opinions and ideas? Are you more or less likely to listen to a person of the opposite gender? How does the language you use with someone of your gender differ when you are talking to someone of a different gender?
I think that gender influences the language not only I but others use because each person is raised with different expectations and habits which might be gender specific, effecting ways of thinking and word choices.
My parents have been a large influence on my role in communicating as they teach me to follow certain behaviour and manners as a girl. Aside this, interacting with my friends and looking at their reactions has lead to meeting gender-specific attitudes.
There is no exact way boys should behave because every person are given restrictions on how they should grow up to be but have entitled opinions on whether they choose to believe such 'rules'. Although this, people are lead to creating gender stereotypes by observing how most boys act and this does limit some people's view on boys and pre-determines their character.
Girls should have the freedom to act how they want to whether it is naturally more feminine, masculine or neutral. I do feel that girls are more open to acting different rather than the ideal woman or are more flexible to be like a boy such as being a tomboy comparing to boys as it seems not be as unusual as vice versa. With this, in todays society both genders are open to an age of being out of the norm but people might still have the mindset of those in the past.
This depends on the situation and what is being discussed as I could have stronger on negative comments regarding my family, friends or issues I'm interested in. I feel less comfortable having forceful opinions on things such as my appearance or skills but it usually an arguement out of politeness. If it was about a more in-depth topic about for example my race or something I was very sure is incorrect I would speak.
It differs from each person and not gender, some people might have a friendlier personality towards me.
I don't really pay attention to my language between genders but I do relate to topics with girls better because they might be familiar with how I feel better.
