Topic 2 - Poetry
I think that in this topic will involve a revision of past work on poetry, such as analysing them, but also be in relation with our past unit regarding the influences of our language. Previously, we learnt about how English can be influenced by different factors for each individual. Similarly, our objectives or style of poems can evoke different types of imagery and opinions customised by each person's mindset. Additionally, I am aware that we will need to analyse a piece of unseen poetry for an assessment later on. I feel that I should be comfortable doing so due to taking a similar format test last year and along with the analysation of poems done in class. Towards the end of the unit I should be not only be able to easily identify figurative language used such as assonance, onomatopoeia or rhyme patterns, but also the meanings behind each line and themes prevalent. Being able to give an in-depth analysation of the poem could raise questions on why and what certain vocabulary does to enhance the objective of it, thus making connections and personal opinions. On the topic sheet creative thinking will be the ATL and improving such skills I think could develop my own poetry making. All in all, making links when writing and reading poetry will be interesting as it can give an insight on the perspectives, character of my classmates and even the poet.
