POETRY ACTIVITY 1
Poetry
Expression, rhythm.
Figurative, connections, rhyme.
Emotional, personal, love, fear.
Thoughts.
The objective of it was to explain what I defined poetry as, evoking my thoughts and feelings when creating poetry.
My partner was able to respond to the poem by saying that it specifically described what poetry meant to me. Along with this, she could recognise that I thought poetry was an activity that involved a lot of personal input and displaying it in a rhythmic manner. Ultimately, the poem identified that poetry to me surrounds around an individual's thoughts and perspectives.
Rooftops
Ships fill the calm open sea like slowly shifting islands
The warm air heats my skin and light beams into my eyes
Limp blades of grass shrivelled and dried in dull tones of green and brown
Airplanes hide behind clouds with only the sound of their rumbling engines heard
People rest and lean on fences in silence.
I aimed to provide the reader the sensations that can be felt in the warm atmosphere of being at the rooftop. This could give imagery of what the surroundings could have been like and immerse them into it.
The reader could identify different senses being used to trigger a visualisation of some sights, colours, sounds and a few physical or textural feels. Aside this, the characteristics of the view from above could be imagined from the first line, giving the idea that the environment was hot and still.
The Sound Of Stairs
Stomp! Stomp! Music is made as the footsteps race.
Countless beats overlapping one another and composed by a different face
Foreign murmurs of voices and languages as students chitchat
Loud thumping and thudding drowning their words about this and that
Cries of laughter fade in only to get lost in a diverse blend
Desperate pants of exhaustion to celebrate the journey's end
The poem was to try to describe what noises can be heard whilst in the stairway at school, especially during the rush of people going to class and after school. It should have shown the characteristics the nature of the noisy situation.
My poem gave a response that supported my aim for it, highlighting the sounds and noises when walking up and down the school stairway. My partner could be surrounded by a variation of noises because each line could name one creation of noise that could be heard. Further more, it suggested that it describe the atmosphere when there are lots of people at break or between classes.
