SLANG
Does the use of slang words make you sound less intelligent? Has the use of sloppy language gone too far? Should slang be banned in schools? Do you have two versions of the language that you use? How can your use of slang be said to create barriers and bridges between you and other people?
1 ) I think that slang language can make you sound less intelligent depending on the situation in which you are using such language, like whether it is with elders, teachers or just with friends.. When speaking with elders or professionals, more formal words should be used as using slang can give a bad impression or seem disrespectful but when you're just chatting with your friends they are more familiar with the 'code' and speak in a more relaxed manner.
2) I think that the use of sloppy language at some extent has gone too far. The mass popularity of speaking slang spreads through social media and the technology the majority of us use everyday, this ultimately can have a negative impact on the thinking of younger generations as persuading them to follow trends can lead to a much more shallow thought process and just become lazy.
3) No, I don't think slang should be banned from being used in school as it is simply just a more informal way of communicating. Idealistically, if the words used are not appropriate or irrelevant they should be allowed for students to discuss with, although not speaking to teachers in such language is more of a common instinct.
4) I don't have two versions of English that I use or have fully developed a 'slanguage' as most of the time I use informal phrases or terms indirectly through text or social media.
5) Despite not using slang alot, I am aware that slang can be misinterpreted by other communities of people who do not know the meanings behind this form of code which I use more commonly
