Character - Inspector Goole
When performing a dramatic reading I thought that using vocal tools to indicate an expression of emotions helps embody the thoughts of the character. Through changing the pitch of my voice when becoming Inspector Goole, it allowed me create a better understanding of his assertive identity. I attempted to do a low male-like voice and just by altering it from my own normal speech it impacts the way in which words are pronounced. The firm pacing of his words seemed to reflect how unusually sure he was when driving the family to guilt. Additionally, the accent difference between the Birlings, Croft and Goole almost formed a barrier which highlighted how the family where initially very self righteous and well introduced whilst the inspector’s appearance was a stranger with questionable morals. The gradual build-up of stronger feelings could eventually drive the tension in the story and almost create a visualisation through the intensity. With this, dramatically reading the interactions with the characters effectively presented the development of action and revealed their personalities.
